Shakey Graves

Shakey Graves (Alejandro Rose-Garcia) joined us on a postcard New York City afternoon at Chelsea Studios NYC to share two songs from his new album Fondness, Etc., flanked by guitarist and birthday boy Cameron Neal, with their respective families in tow. Days like this are a reminder that the “work” of working in music is worth it, these are the days that keep us coming back.

The new album Fondness, Etc. expands the possibilities of what can be made with two consumer-grade tape machines, a month at home, and a boatload of creativity. As Rose-Garcia describes the process, it’s easy to imagine a contemporary version of Bruce Springsteen crafting Nebraska, as dramatized in last year’s biopic Deliver Me from Nowhere.

The parallels don’t extend to the personal struggles that Springsteen wrestled with during the Nebraksa era. It seems to me like Rose-Garcia is essentially a happy man, balancing the roles of family and new fatherhood with his music.

To cap the day, I left the studio around 7:30 PM to find the whole city drenched in a cotton candy glow. It was the first day of Manhattanhenge, when the sun aligns with the city’s grid. Yes please, I’ll take two.

Recorded live at Chelsea Studios NYC on May 28, 2026.
